This morning I read the parable of the talents, in which the master gave his three servants each a set numbers of talents. As you probably remember, two were wise with their talents and, in the end, found that they had twice the number of talents they started with. However, the third was foolish and simply held on to the talent his master gave him. He hid it away and did nothing with it, thus having gained nothing in the end. When the master returned, the two wise servants gave their master back what he had originally given them with more. However, the foolish servant gave back only what he was given. The master's response to the servant was "...at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest" (Matthew 25:27)
One thing the Lord has really been showing me lately is how He doesn't want halfhearted gifts that cost me absolutely nothing. When He returns He wants to be given everything - what He gave me and more.
There is a line in one of Misty Edward's songs that has always stuck out to me that says, "How far will You let me go? How abandoned will You let me be?"
We should strive to give everything we are and everything we have to Him - not that which is easy to give up or that which we don't want anyway. We are to give that which costs us something.
In short, we should refuse to give the Lord that which costs us nothing.
